British Disabled Water Ski Association - Lets have a go

ELLINGHAM WATER SKI & WAKEBOARD CLUB - RINGWOOD

Have -a -go' and Learn -to - waterski sessions, for anyone with any disability - including seated, amputees, blind or deaf people.

Come and join us at beautiful Ellingham Lake
“HAVE A GO” and “LEARN TO WATER-SKI”

Water -skiing is a sport for EVERYBODY, young /old, tall /short, fat /thin, able-bodied /disabled, including people in wheelchairs.

Beginners days are held on most of the first Saturdays of the month, From May till September at a cost of £8.00 a tow.

All equipment is supplied free and expert tuition will be given by qualified volunteer instructors.

1. Seated Skiers: such as Back Injured, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke Patients and MS sufferers learn between two instructors sitting on what we call “ Root 5” ski/ canoes, yes it’s very safe with lots of help close at hand.

2.
Arm Disability: Start with conventional equipment with an added harness to make up for the missing limb, with an instructor either side of you for support.

3.
Learning Disabilities: Usually ski seated to start with but can progress to ski standing depending on their co-ordination.

4.
Blind: Will learn with a guide on either side of the pupil and later they will ski with their own guide who will act as their eyes.

5.
Leg Amputees: Learn between two instructors - initially, with a Triple bar which interlocks enabling the instructors to give balance and support.

6.
Deaf: Learn first on dry land, signals are confined between the skier and the instructors to give confidence on the water.

No matter what your disability, it is highly likely that you could water-ski. A large number of our beginners start in a seated position between two instructors, quite slowly and very safely.
